What is EXIF metadata?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is information embedded in photo files by your camera or phone. It typically includes camera model, settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), date and time taken, and sometimes GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken.
Why should I remove metadata before sharing photos?
GPS coordinates embedded in photos can reveal where you live, work, or regularly visit. Camera serial numbers can link photos back to you. Timestamps can reveal patterns. Removing metadata protects your privacy when sharing photos publicly online.
How does the metadata stripping work?
Your photo is drawn onto an HTML Canvas element and re-exported as a new image file. This process does not carry over any EXIF data — the output is a clean image with no metadata.
Does stripping metadata change the image quality?
The image is re-encoded at 92% quality (for JPG/WebP), which is visually lossless for most photos. Select PNG output for completely lossless stripping with no quality change.
